We have the incredible opportunity to receive a tour of the NIAR WERX facility and to hear an update from NIAR WERX Director, David Jones. The WERX team focuses on four key areas: Engineering Services, Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO), Environmental & Electromagnetic Testing, and Flight Testing & Certification.
ABOUT NIAR WERX
In a Wichita hangar with a long history for excellence in aircraft innovation and design, the highly skilled staff at NIAR WERX relies on hundreds of years of combined experience in the design, production and testing of aircraft and components to develop and execute some of the most unique aviation projects in the Air Capital. Paired with the fresh and open minds of engineering and technical students at Wichita State University and WSU Tech, the WERX team implements innovative and efficient methods for the rapid development of engineering and testing plans for new aircraft, modifications/overhaul and electrical components.
WERX provides engineering, modification/repair/overhaul, environmental test and flight test/certification services. This includes A321 and 777-300ERCF passenger to freighter conversion programs with Erickson Precision Ventures and Kansas Modification Center. The NIAR WERX team includes more than 500 program managers, engineers, contractors, technicians and paid applied learning students.
ABOUT DAVE JONES
Dave Jones has more than 25 years of diverse experience in aerospace business management. His early career included mechanical design with OEMs including Airbus, Bombardier and Raytheon. He transformed Bombardier Special Missions Group into the premier organization for rapid design/build services for the design of aircraft structure, experimental systems and missionized aircraft. He led Bombardier Flight Test Center engineering and flight operation departments through the A220 (CSeries) EIS and Global 7500 to certification. Recently, he established the NIAR Engineering, Design & Modification Lab, which has grown to provide engineering and other turnkey services to clients such as Spirit AeroSystems, Textron Aviation, Bombardier, Stratolaunch, Aerion and The Spaceship Company. Dave has a deep understanding of aircraft design, development, manufacturing, build, test and certification.
